G5 are now Eduroam providers
G5 are delighted to be a provider of Eduroam in the UK. It was a natural step for us to offer Eduroam as we provide G5Zone to many Student accommodation locations across the UK. We also offer Child Friendly and Social WiFi services. As Eduroam grows, more and more hotspots are being added. Locations such as libraries, museums and public spaces e.g. railway stations and coffee shops.
What is Eduroam?
The eduroam initiative started in 2003 to enable individuals to access network services in multiple education campuses. The technology behind eduroam is based on the IEEE 802.1X standard and a hierarchy of RADIUS proxy servers. It was created to provide roaming network access across research and education locations. The primary function of Eduroam is to enable individuals, whether at the home institution or when visiting another campus, access to the Internet through the use of the same authentication credentials. Sharing of these network services is of mutual benefit to all participating organisations throughout the whole education and research community. Eduroam is based on the most secure encryption and authentication standards. Its security exceeds typical commercial hotspots.
Where can I find Eduroam in the UK?

How do I connect to Eduroam?
After installing Eduroam on your device there’s no need to request special accounts or borrow other people’s IDs – just activate your device and you should be online.
Your password for your online identity is provided to you by your ‘home’ institution – where you are enrolled in study or are employed.
Your device will then identify a valid eduroam access point and log-in automatically.
So wherever you see ‘eduroam’ appear in your list of Wi-Fi networks, you can get online.
